So Far, Fascinating!

I enjoy being in other countries than mine. I love learning and using a language that is not my mother tongue, trying such good food I can’t in my country and experiencing a different culture. I arrived here on June 24 at San Francisco airport and stayed in San Jose for a week and then came down here Riverside for school. And how’s my life in America? So far, fascinating!

I like to learn languages very much, and English is the language which I try to be good at, the most. I hear and speak English every day just naturally. Attending morning classes and doing assignments are not so easy. However, it’s very worthy. It challenges me and keeps me away from being so highly of myself.

Food is so good. Many of them are really cheesy or really sweet to me. And I do like cheesy taste and sweets. In-N-Out burger is the best I’ve ever had. I can’t believe that California is the only place that has In-N-Out. California, so lucky! Curly fries? My new favorite food. You should try it if you haven’t yet. I never knew I liked fast food this much. I fell in love with brownies. It is surprising to see how many pieces of brownies I eat at once. California has the best Mexican food in the world. I heard that it’s better than even real Mexican food somehow. I can feel I’m getting fat at the velocity of light.

The best part of being here is that I can meet people who are not from my country and befriend them. My homestay mother, Dawn has been surprisingly caring and kind to me and my roommate. (FYI, she is a really good cook, which is the reason why I’m getting fat at the speed of light.) My roommate, Kiko is a nice friend. I’m lucky to have her as a roommate. My classmates are eager to learn and smart. I’m so looking forward to getting to know them better. What I find doing fun is to just randomly ask someone sitting at a table, standing or whatever if he/she minds if I sit there and chat and be friends with the person. I’m really hoping to make more new friends and have fun with them.

  1. It's very encouraging to see your love for the language and the country, and I see you've found the glorious Californian jewel which is In-n-out! Good thing you like cheese. Your love for the language and seeking out opportunities to practice is sure to make you improve real fast (even though you write well already - I really enjoyed reading your post)!
